Work Stress and Burnout Counselling in Albany

When work stops staying at work, and the pressure follows you into your sleep, your mood and your relationships, it is easy to assume you just need to push harder. Often the opposite is true. Counselling gives you a place to step back, understand what is running you down, and find a steadier way to carry it.

Burnout is not a sign that you are weak or not up to the job. It is what happens when demand outstrips recovery for long enough, especially when you care about doing things well. By the time many people seek support, they have usually been coping impressively for a long time. Counselling offers a chance to set that load down for an hour and look honestly at what has been happening.

What work stress and burnout can look like

Burnout builds gradually, which is part of why it is so easy to miss until you are deep in it. It might look like:

  • Dragging yourself through tasks that once felt manageable, running on caffeine and adrenaline, and still feeling behind at the end of every day.
  • A shorter fuse and a thinner skin, snapping at the people you love or going numb and withdrawn once you finally get home.
  • Cynicism or dread creeping into work you used to care about, alongside guilt for not being able to simply shrug it off.

These are not character failings. They are signals from a system that has been asked to give more than it can sustainably give, and they are worth listening to rather than overriding.

How counselling with Rene approaches work stress and burnout

Rene helps you look at the full picture, not only the workload itself but the beliefs and pressures underneath it: the sense that rest has to be earned, the fear of letting people down, the identity wrapped up in being the reliable one. Understanding these makes it possible to change your relationship with work, rather than just white-knuckling until the next collapse.

Some of the work is practical: noticing your early warning signs, protecting recovery, and setting boundaries that actually hold. Some of it is deeper, looking at what has made it so hard to slow down or say no. There is no push to make dramatic decisions about your job. The aim is to help you feel more like yourself again, and clearer about what needs to change and what does not.

What to expect

There is no pressure and no fixed number of sessions. The first appointment is a straightforward conversation about how work has been affecting you and what you would like to feel differently, with no expectation to have solutions ready. You and Rene set a workable pace together, and you stay in control of it. If counselling does not feel like the right fit, that is entirely okay.

Sessions are available in person in Albany, Western Australia. If a busy schedule makes travel difficult, the same support is available through secure online counselling across Australia, including outside standard hours where possible.
