Anxiety and Overwhelm Counselling in Albany

If your mind will not slow down, if worry has started to shape your days, or if you feel wound tight for reasons you cannot always name, you are not alone and you do not need to arrive with the right words. There is a calmer way to live, and it can begin with a single conversation.

Anxiety rarely announces itself clearly. More often it shows up as a low hum underneath everything, a sense that you are bracing for something without knowing quite what. You might feel restless and exhausted at the same time. You might lie awake running through conversations, decisions and worst-case scenarios, then wake already behind. Whatever it looks like for you, counselling gives you a place to set some of it down and understand what is really going on.

What anxiety and overwhelm can look like day to day

Anxiety is not only the big, obvious moments of panic. For many people it is quieter and more constant, woven through ordinary life in ways that are easy to explain away. It might look like:

  • Saying yes to everything, then feeling stretched thin and quietly resentful, because slowing down feels unsafe or selfish.
  • Reading and rereading a message before you send it, or replaying a short exchange for hours afterwards, sure you got something wrong.
  • A body that will not settle, a tight chest, a churning stomach, shallow breath, or a tiredness that sleep does not seem to fix.

None of these make you fragile or difficult. They are the very human ways a nervous system tries to keep you safe when it has learned to stay on guard. The problem is not that you feel too much; it is that you have been carrying it alone, without a chance to look at it clearly.

How counselling with Rene approaches anxiety

Rene does not treat anxiety as a fault to be corrected. Together you slow things down enough to notice what your worry is responding to, where it takes hold in your body, and the patterns that quietly keep it going. Rather than handing you a checklist, she helps you understand your own particular version of overwhelm, so the tools you build actually fit your life.

Some of that work is about the present: steadier ways to respond when anxiety rises, and small, doable shifts that give you back some room to breathe. Some of it looks a little deeper, at the beliefs and experiences underneath the worry, so change holds rather than fading after a hard week. Throughout, the pace is yours. Nothing is pushed, and nothing you share is too small to bring.

What to expect

There is no pressure and no fixed number of sessions. Your first appointment is simply a conversation, a chance to talk through what has been happening and what you are hoping for, with no expectation that you have it worked out. From there, you and Rene decide together what a helpful pace looks like, and you stay in control of that the whole way through. If counselling does not feel like the right fit, that is genuinely okay, and there is no obligation to continue.
