What I help with

Relationship and Family Counselling in Albany

The people closest to us can bring the most joy and the most difficulty, often at the same time. If you keep having the same argument, feel unheard, or notice patterns you do not understand and cannot seem to change, counselling can help you make sense of what is happening between you and find steadier ground.

Relationships shape us in ways we rarely stop to examine. The way you were related to growing up, the roles you learned to play, the things that felt safe to say and the things that did not, all of it follows you into your closest connections now. Counselling gives you space to notice those patterns clearly, understand where they come from, and decide what you would like to do differently.

What relationship and family strain can look like

Difficulty in relationships is not always dramatic. Often it builds quietly, until closeness starts to feel like hard work. It might look like:

  • The same disagreement on repeat in different clothing, where you both know your lines and nothing ever really resolves.
  • Keeping the peace by going quiet, then feeling unseen, resentful or slowly more distant from someone you love.
  • Family dynamics that leave you anxious, guilty or small, where old roles snap back into place the moment you are together.

Struggling in a relationship does not mean you are failing at it, or that something is wrong with you. It usually means there are needs and patterns underneath that have not yet had the space to be understood.

How counselling with Rene approaches relationships and family

Whether you come on your own to think through a relationship, or to understand your part in patterns you would like to shift, Rene offers a calm, balanced space where you can be honest without being judged. She does not take sides or hand out blame. Instead she helps you see what is happening beneath the surface, the needs, fears and histories that shape how you connect.

Together you look at communication, boundaries and the patterns that keep repeating, and at how conflict has been affecting you and the people around you. The work is not about becoming a different person or winning an argument. It is about understanding yourself and your relationships more clearly, so you can respond in ways that feel more like the person you want to be.

What to expect

There is no pressure and no fixed number of sessions. The first appointment is a conversation about what has been happening in your relationships and what you would like to feel differently, with no expectation to have it all mapped out. You and Rene set a pace together, and you stay in control of what you explore. If it does not feel like the right fit, that is genuinely okay.

Sessions are available in person in Albany, Western Australia, and through secure online counselling across Australia if that suits your circumstances better.
