Australia-wide telehealth
Online Counselling Across Australia
Wherever you are in the country, you can work with Rene from the comfort and privacy of your own space. Online counselling offers the same warm, unhurried support as meeting in person, through secure video, with no need to travel and no referral required.
Meeting online is not a lesser version of counselling. For many people it is simply the version that fits their life, letting them speak openly from a place where they already feel safe. If you have been putting off reaching out because of distance, time or the effort of getting to an appointment, this may be the way in you have been waiting for.
No GP referral needed
You do not need a referral from your doctor to begin. You can reach out and book directly, and there is no gatekeeping to get through first. If you happen to have a Mental Health Care Plan or other supports in place, you are welcome to mention it, but nothing like that is required to start. All you need is the sense that you would like to talk to someone.
How secure video sessions work in practice
Online sessions are straightforward, even if you are not especially confident with technology. To meet comfortably you will need:
- A device with a camera, a laptop, tablet or phone. Something you can prop up steadily works best, so you are not holding it the whole time.
- A reasonably stable internet connection. It does not need to be fast; a normal home connection is usually fine, and sessions can carry on even if the picture dips for a moment.
- A private, uninterrupted space where you will not be overheard, for the length of the session. For some people that is a room with the door closed; for others it is a parked car or a quiet corner. Headphones can add privacy and help you focus.
Before your first session you will be sent a simple, secure link to join at your appointment time. There is usually nothing to install and no accounts to set up, and Rene is happy to help you get comfortable with it at the start if you would like.
Available Australia-wide, not just Western Australia
While in-person appointments are based in Albany, online counselling is available to adults right across Australia, in the cities and in regional and remote areas alike. If you live somewhere with few local options, or you simply prefer to choose your counsellor rather than whoever is nearest, distance does not have to stand in your way.
Time zones and availability
Australia spans several time zones, so it helps to know that appointment times are arranged in Australian Western Standard Time (Albany, WA). If you are on the east coast or in central Australia, that difference is easy to work with once we account for it, and often opens up options earlier in your day. When you get in touch, let Rene know your location and the times that tend to suit you, and a workable slot can usually be found.
Who online counselling suits well, and who might prefer in person
Telehealth tends to suit people who value flexibility, who live far from a counsellor they connect with, who have busy or unpredictable schedules, or who simply feel more able to open up from their own space. Many people find it more relaxed, not less.
In-person sessions may suit you better if you do not have a reliably private space, if screens leave you feeling disconnected, or if you know you engage more fully when you are physically in the room. Neither option is better than the other; what matters is what helps you feel safe enough to talk. If you are local to Albany, you are welcome to choose in person, online, or a mix of both, and to change your mind as you go.
